aptX HD was introduced in 2016.
It supports up to 24 bit 48 kHz audio over Bluetooth.
Compression remains at a ratio of 4:1, with a bit rate of 576kbps.
Although the data rate is substantially higher compared with aptX, it is and remain a lossy codec.
As it take two to tango, you can only use aptX HD if both sender and receiver support it.
Today aptX is owned by Qualcomm.
See the APTX website for products supporting aptX and aptX-HD.
