VLC media player is
a highly portable multimedia player and multimedia
framework capable of reading most audio and video formats (MPEG-2,
MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac ...) as well as DVD's,
Audio CDs VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
It can also be used as a media converter or a server to stream in
unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on networks.
The VideoLAN Project produces free software for video, released under the GNU General Public License.
It is cross-platform supporting Win, Mac, Linux in various flavours and even BeOS.
The list of features is impressive:
Audio formats
Subtitle and Tags
Streaming
Audio-settings: no WASAPI, only DS and WAVE
The interface is a simple one, the normal buttons and a visualisation.
You can use playlist.
If you point to the directory with your music a simple playlist is generated
No album title and track, but they don't claim to support WMAL, ID3 (MP3) works.
Information: another application who never heard of a thing called composer.
You probably won't choose VLC because of its interface but because of its capacity to play or stream lots of formats.
Not much love lost for this player at Hydrogenaudio.
